![]() Probably the most significant part of the book is the last chapter, dealing with conclusions and implications. Steve Murdock with the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University led a team of five demographers in producing the book, which includes more than 120 tables. In 2010, the makeup was 45.3 percent white, 11.5 percent black, 37.6 percent Hispanic and 5.6 percent Asian or other. The authors project that by 2050, Texas could have a population of more than 55 million (an increase of more than 30 million people from 2010 to 2050) and that the makeup will be something like this: 21.8 percent white, 9.4 percent black, 55.6 percent Hispanic and 19.5 percent Asian or other. ![]() It's not light reading by any means, but "Changing Texas: Implications of Addressing or Ignoring the Texas Challenge" (Texas A&M University Press, $24.95 paperback) covers an important subject - the future of Texas. ![]()
